Lawyer Referral and Information Service

Do you need a bankruptcy attorney?

Are you receiving harassing calls from debt collectors? Are you trying to stop a garnishment, repossession, or foreclosure?

Bankruptcy law is a proceeding in a federal court in which a debtor's assets are liquidated and the debtor is relieved of further liability. Making the decision to file bankruptcy is not easy, but at times it may be necessary to stop garnishments, repossessions, foreclosures, or creditor harassment.

The Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) has been serving the general public in the metropolitan Atlanta and surrounding areas since 1955. The goal of our LRIS is to refer you to the right attorney who reflects legal professionalism, integrity and a commitment to service.

How the service works:

Step One

Call us at (404) 521-0777 or complete an online referral request.

If filing Chapter 7 and you believe you might qualify, please consider our Modest Means Program.

Step Two

Our referral staff will need a brief description of your legal issue, your name, address and phone number (all information is confidential).

Step Three

We will provide you with the name and phone number of a qualified lawyer who handles your type of problem and who is located, if applicable, in the geographic area convenient to you.

Step Four

Your initial half-hour consultation with the attorney will cost no more than $45. There is no fee for many areas of law.

Step Five

If further legal service is required, the fee arrangements are made between you and the attorney.
