Family Law Section
Formed in 1965 - 1966 by Jack P. Turner, the Family Law Section provides various programs and benefits for its members.
The Section’s goal is to:
- uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and of Georgia and maintain representative government
- to advance the science of jurisprudence
- to promote the administration of justice
- to uphold the honor of the profession of law; to apply its knowledge and experience in the field of domestic relations or family law to the promotion of the public good
- to encourage cordial intercourse among the members of the Section
- to correlate and promote such activities of the Section as are within these objects in the interest of the legal profession and of the public; and to engage in the lawful activities related thereto
- to sponsor actively the continuing education of the members of the Atlanta Bar Association in this field
- to study and review proposed legislation or administration policy for the improvement of the law and practice in this field and to make appropriate recommendations thereon to the Atlanta Bar Association
- and always be subject to the By-Laws of the Atlanta Bar Association and to this end shall more specifically promote but not be limited to the following services:
- to inform of current case law in the Family Law areas
- to inform of new proposed or past legislation in the Family Law area
- to provide a basis for interaction within the Family Law area between the bench and bar
- to provide informed speakers on subjects of interest at regular monthly meetings and other continuing legal education meetings or seminars
- and to promote expertise of the members in the Family Law area.
The Section also offers a breakfast for its members held on the second Thursday of each month, which offers a number of educational programs. Members who attend meetings may also have the option to earn CLE credit.
