About the Atlanta Bar Association
Formed in 1888, the Atlanta Bar Association is the largest metropolitan bar association in the Southeast and one of the most active in the country in serving its members, the Atlanta community and legal system.
The Association has more than 6,300 members in a 12-county area of metropolitan Atlanta. Twenty Sections of specialty areas of law and interest provide members with opportunities to participate in educational programs, community activities and social activities.
More than 40 committees work on projects to better the bar, the community, and the profession.
More than 12,000 referrals are made each year by the Lawyer Referral and Information Service which was formed in 1955 to assist the public in locating attorneys who are qualified to handle all areas of law.
A speakers' bureau has been created to refer attorneys to civic organizations to speak on various areas of law.
The Atlanta Bar Association publishes an informative monthly newsletter, The Atlanta Lawyer, that reports bar activities, anannual pictorial membership directory which includes a list of frequently used phone numbers and ADR list of neutrals, an Annual Report on activities around the bar, a Media Resource Guide, and various publications published by the 20 sections.
