Attorneys in all practice areas are able to assist with the project.
A big part of assisting a patient is listening to her or her family member and helping her identify possible legal issues. Involvement can be as simple as guiding a patient or family member to the appropriate resources, writing a letter or making a phone call.
How To Get Involved!
Trained volunteers will be able to help by:
(1) screening patients at area hospitals and/or clinics with a member of the Atlanta Legal Aid team or an experienced volunteer; and
(2) accept cases to work up with Legal Aid's support. Trained volunteers may accept cases they identify in intake, or from a monthly email of potential pro bono cases.
Attorneys are also invited to be "Consultants."
No training required!
Simply email your name, practice area and contact information to Sarah Cipperly of Atlanta Legal Aid to be put on the Consultant List. If a case with issues from your practice area arises, Sarah Cipperly may contact you about how to proceed.
The 1.5 hour session will focus on screening clients; issues working with low-income clients; and resources for handling different types of claims.
