Garnishments in Georgia after Strickland v. Alexander
Join the Public Interest Law Section for a networking reception with appetizers, beer, and wine, followed by a panel discussion on the recent federal court decision in Strickland v. Alexander.

On September 8, 2015, U.S. District Judge Marvin Shoob issued an injunction and ruled that Georgia's post-judgment garnishment statute is unconstitutional, which halted garnishment actions in many courts throughout Georgia.  This panel discussion will bring perspectives from various angles to address the effect the decision has had in the state, as well as offer proposed solutions for the future of Georgia garnishments.

Networking Reception: 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Panel Discussion: 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

  • The Honorable Wayne M. Purdom, State Court of DeKalb County
  • David Webster, Atlanta Legal Aid Society General Counsel and attorney for Tony Strickland
