PART OF PRO BONO MARCH MADNESS
Presented by: Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF)
CLE: 3.5 CLE Hours, including 1 Professionalism Hour
The import of a Guardian ad Litem’s recommendation or a judge’s final decision is a weighty responsibility in any case. When the safety of a child or a parent is at issue, the import weighs even more heavily. Domestic violence is a challenging and nuanced topic, and understanding how to make decisions and recommendations that ensure the safety and well-being of an entire family is a formidable task. This class will discuss a range of topics that can help steer decision-makers and investigators towards safe and sound recommendations for children in families where intimate partner violence is alleged. Topics will include best practices and common pitfalls in practice, the neuroscience of violence on developing minds, and a view from the bench and bar.
