Sole Practitioner/Small Firm

The Sole Practitioner/Small Firm Section – “Atlanta’s largest law firm” – continues to provide its members with timely and interesting presentations designed to benefit practitioners of all stripes and levels of experience.

Our January breakfast speaker guided us in identifying our own skills and personality traits and those of potential partners, associates, and support staff, to make sure that our skills and personality traits will align with our prospective colleagues to maximize the potential to achieve business goals. Our January lunch meeting focused on building our professional brands to enhance our efforts to attract clients.

For February, our breakfast speaker offered tips to increase our productivity by organizing our email and our paper files. Our lunch meeting was held at a sponsor’s offices, with a presentation on cybersecurity.

During the Spring, we plan to continue to offer speakers who will provide concrete practice guidance that will benefit all of us without regard to our respective practice focuses. We hope that you will consider joining us for breakfast at the Buckhead Club the third Thursday of the month, and/or for lunch at Ri Ra the fourth Thursday of the month.

We will also be holding a social on March 14.

With an eye towards giving back to those who are less fortunate, during the past year our Section has offered several presentations on various pro bono and community service programs that are in need of volunteer attorneys. If you missed those presentations and would like to learn more about becoming involved in pro bono or other community service, please let me know.
I would like to thank each of our Board members, without whom we could not offer our twice-monthly programs: Vice Chair/Chair-Elect William F. Smith III; Secretary Matthew C. Jordan; Treasurer Chris Brannon; Immediate Past Chair Rachel Platt; Members at Large Gene Chapman, Laurie Dugoniths Busbee, Michael R. Dunham, John Hadden, Marcus Keegan, Michael T. Rafi, James M. Sherman, Mark W. Thomas, and Jason Wiggam; and Founders/Life Members Hon. T. Jackson Bedford and Robert Wellon.

The Sole Practitioner/Small Firm Section – “Atlanta’s largest law firm” – continues to provide its
members with timely and interesting presentations designed to benefit practitioners of all stripes and levels of experience – seasoned and less seasoned transactional attorneys, civil litigators, family lawyers, criminal defense attorneys, workers’ compensation attorneys, and those who handle “all of the above”. Our October lunch speaker, Sonia Lakhany, shared marketing tips – how to create a “wow” factor – to a packed house. Many of us left with a list of steps to take to refresh our respective practices. In November, we offered members an opportunity to learn more about volunteer opportunities with Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, and we also explored practice management solutions with representatives of PriceWaterhouse Coopers.

We will start the year with January presentations on networking – creating a personal brand – and on learning to identify and align skills and personality traits in yourself and your potential partners and employees so as to maximize achievement of business goals. If you are interested in becoming involved in our Section, please join us for breakfast at the Buckhead Club the third Thursday of the month, and/or for lunch the fourth Thursday of the month. We are going to experiment with some new lunch locations, so be sure to check the location when you register
for an event! Please feel free to contact me or one of our Board members if you are interested in becoming involved in our Section.
