Diversity and the Power of Understanding

The theme for ABA’s 2017 Mediation Week is Mediation, Civility & the Power of Understanding.  In honor of Mediation Week, the Atlanta Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Section and JAMS have brought together a panel that aims to address and celebrate this theme from a diversity and inclusion perspective – beyond just the buzzwords.  The program will address the deficit in diversity and inclusion in the legal landscape and how this informs mediation outcomes.  Attendees will get perspectives from ADR executives, in-house and outside counsel on how to move the needle towards a more inclusive, civil and competent legal industry.
Topics will Include:
An overview of diversity figures in the legal field, including the current pipeline
Practical tips for practitioners to implement in their firms to increase diversity from the in-house perspective
Advantages to a more inclusive work place and how that translates to more effective dispute resolution

• Emily Borna, Jackson Lewis
• Elizabeth Carter, JAMS VP of East Region
• Dorian Denburg, Corporate Counsel at AT&T
• Joan Grafstein, JAMS Arbitrator & Mediator
