Georgia Legal Services Program

was founded in 1971 with a mission to provide access to justice and opportunities out of poverty for needy Georgians outside the metro Atlanta area whose incomes are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Seniors, victims of abuse, troubled youth, children with special needs, individuals who do not speak English, and other vulnerable populations make up our clientele. GLSP is a familiar landmark among poor people in our service region of 154 of Georgia’s 159 counties. Since our inception, we have successfully mobilized more than 750,000 families and individuals on the brink of disaster one step closer to self-sufficiency and better lives out of poverty. Clients say they experience a bond with our lawyers and satisfaction with our services, because GLSP lawyers really care about their clients.

We deliver high impact services, including advice and counsel, educational programs, civil legal assistance, special projects, emergency legal assistance to families who have been displaced by natural disasters, such as floods and tornadoes, and community development opportunities in small rural areas that lack affordable housing, job development, after-school programs, and computer literacy programs. Our services are provided free-of-charge to eligible clients. We handle no criminal cases. We do not engage in lobbying or political campaigns.
